Tyrrells Potato Chips
Tyrrells is the only small chipmaker in the UK to grow their own potatoes and make the chips directly on premises of their farm in Herefordshire, England. |
 Tyrrells Chips have been very popular in England since they were introduced in 2002. In May 2007 we started importing Tyrrells to the US market and they have been an instant hit with retailers as soon as they began stocking them. During the Summer 2007 Fancy Food Show, Tyrrells Sweet Chilli & Red Pepper Potato Chips won the "Outstanding New Product” category of the sofi™ Gold Awards, formerly known as the NASFT Product Awards. From seed to chip, everything that goes into Tyrrells is made and processed directly right on their potato farm. The farmer, Will Chase, grew up in Tyrrells Court, England (the town for which the chips are named) and has been farming potatoes there for the last 20 years. Will converted one of his potato stores into a small factory, after traveling the world to learn about the process and source machinery. Most of the potatoes Will grew he supplied to big supermarkets in the UK, which often left him feeling detached – without any feedback or thanks from his end customers. With the continual price pressure from the supermarkets, he and his small team realized that they had to change direction. They wanted to remain in farming, and produce a great tasting product that they could make out of their potatoes. It was then when Tyrrells and it exisits today was born: making small batches of highest-quality potato chips with loving care. Tyrrells chooses to grow older, heirloom variety of potatoes for their renowned flavor, and each bag is stamped with the varietals of potato used, i.e. “Lady Claire." It is not uncommon for the potatoes to be dug in the morning and turned into chips by lunchtime. The sweet earthiness of the potatoes can be found in each bite. They are produced in small batches and fried quickly in high-grade sunflower oil. The packaging boasts various artwork, whether an antique photograph relating to the flavor or a hand-drawn vegetable image, drawn by the farmer himself. company website: www.tyrrellspotatochips.co.uk |
